this morning is the first of a two day auction occurring at the washington convention center, 575+ homes, approx. 15 in the district (the rest are in maryland & virginia). according to the “real estate disposition corporation” website, there are properties all across the united states that are available; indeed, after the convention here, similar ones will be held to dispose of another 3500 (and counting) in a plethora of regions.

was speaking with a friend and was discussing how amidst the thousands of people who showed up on a crappy, wet saturday morning, all the black people could be counted on one hand. the place was packed with asians, arabs & indians. there were only a handful of properties available in the district (the reason i wanted to be there), but it was just interesting to think about where things are headed. despite the downturn, washington is holding up; perhaps, we may see more change in the next few years than in the past, if only because what has gotten underway here is accelerating…
